The Metropolitan Saint Louis Chapter of NCBW was organized by Dr. Fredda Witherspoon in 1984. There was a need to address the concerns of African-Americans in the community. There was an even greater need to ad-dress issues facing African- American women. Over the last twenty-five years, the Metropolitan Saint Louis Chapter of NCBW has kept the vision of Dr. Witherspoon alive by giv-ing over $45,000 in schol-arships to deserving young women, volunteering at the Crisis Nursery, being men- tors to young ladies in the Parent/Infant Interaction Program at Vashon High School, serving the elderly and promoting the accom-plishments of women in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.
